results are few, this parable will keep one from quitting; for it will remind us that our task of proclaiming the Word is determined by the command of God, not by the condition and reception of the hearts of men. Also when results are few, one will not despair of rewards but will remember that “every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor” (1 Corinthians 3:8), not according to results. And when apparent thrilling results recant, one will not jump into the “slough of despond”;
